01. First Carol

‘Twas many, many years ago

When shepherds on an eastern hill

Heard angels singing in the sky

A song of peace and sweet goodwill.

‘Twas many, many years ago

When wise men travelling from afar

Saw shining in the eastern sky

Above their heads a lovely star.

The shepherds and the wise men came

To where a stable shone with light,

And saw within a manger laid

The Baby Jesus – wond’rous sight.

The shepherds and the wise men knelt,

The gentle Mother Mary smiled,

And all the world remembers yet

The Birthday of that Little Child.

And many, many years to be

Shepherds and wise men, good and ill,

Will come at last where Christ doth wait,

And all  the tortured world be still.
