16. Sixteenth Carol

Oh, did you hear a little bird sing,

He sang in the early morn?

Oh, did you hear the merry bells ring,

To tell us that Jesus was born?

It is a strange and wonderful tale

That happened so long ago;

To us came a King that angels did hail,

A Baby, a Child born to woe!

Oh, list to the bird, all creatures that sing!

Oh join in your praises today.

Let’s sing in our hearts and worship we’ll bring

For Jesus to come in and stay.

How feeble are we that Thou shoud’st love.

And yet did’st Thou die for us all.

Thy pain was for us to take us above,

In safety where we cannot fall.
