17. Seventeenth Carol

In Bethlehem there shone one holy night

A glittering star above a stable bare;

And Wise Men guided by its silver light

Approached and saw the Infant Jesus there.

 

And shepherds came down from the snowy hill

To see the Baby in a manger laid.

With peace and joy their simple hearts did fill

To see their Lord in swaddling robes arrayed.

 

We may be wise, we may be roughly clad,

But all must come to Jesus in the hay;

And He will make us true and pure and glad,

And peace will come into our hearts to stay!
