Butterflies
(From “As Good as Gold”)
Butterflies, butterflies everywhere
Flutter and dance in the golden air,
Lighting on petals of white and red,
Sipping the nectar from flower head.
Butterflies, butterflies rainbow-hued
Float on the breeze in joyous mood;
Wings all a-dazzle with brilliant gleam,
Dipping and rising in midsummer dream.
Butterflies, butterflies’ hearts are gay,
Life is a game for beauty to play.
Twirling and whirling in feathery dance,
Flashing with colour at every glance.
Butterflies, butterflies never heed
The passing of time, the minutes that speed,
Born for the sun, with the sun they are gone,
Lovely and fragile, their brief pageant done.
