A Kind of Sea Shanty

(From  “The Pirates of Pooilvaash”)

A song of the sea is the shanty for me,

Yo ho ho, and a heave-ho !

From Douglas to Bride, Cregneish to Ramsey,

Yo ho ho, and a heave-ho !

Sailing the bonny waves, rock, roll and dip,

Wishing you’d never set foot on the ship,

And sure on your breakfast you’re losing your grip –

Yo ho ho, and a heave-ho !

Oh, down by the sea we’re as gay as can be,

Yo ho ho, and a heave-ho !

The water is salt and as wet as can be,

Yo ho ho, and a heave-ho !

Fisher-lads sit and they work at their nets,

Dreaming of hauls that will pay all their debts;

But nobody really to sea ever gets –

Yo ho ho, and a heave-ho !

A boat on the sea is a beautiful sight,

Yo ho ho, and a heave -ho !

Fills poets and artists with boundless delight,

Yo ho ho, and a heave -ho !

Steamers and yachts are romantic and free

And bring such a feeling of pleasure to me,

That I’m not going to spoil it by sailing the sea –

Yo ho ho, and a heave-ho !
