Garwick
Let me address the shade of Walter Scott !
Oh, great romantic heart, were you indeed
A visitor to this fair isle, this spot
Of living green and gold, this flowering mead
Set in the dark blue sea ? And did you feed
Your eyes with beauty as you laid in store
The gracious curves of nature here displayed
In alternating lure of Glen and moor ?
And did that time the ocean’s frightening roar
Fill Garwick Glen with wild and lawless sound,
As you with thoughts of dirk and smuggling lore
Walked with receptive mind upon this ground ?
Yet this dark cave within the nettled brake
Seems much too small for doughty Hatteraick !
