Lyric for a Special Birthday

The shamrock leaf on Patrick’s Day

Reminds us all to pray

To father, Son and Holy Ghost,

To pray for those who most

Are needful of the grace that lifts us from the common clay.

And those born on St. Patrick’s Day

Are patient, wise and gay,

For they at birth are given the key

To life’s close mystery,

And show in all their bearing that they know a better way.

So I to-day, St. Patrick’s Day,

Greet one with filial lay

Who all my life this bloom hath shown;

For have I never known

A counsellor so true, whose eyes spake more than lips did say !
