To Tom Brown, our Poet
Tom Brown, your little isle reveres your name!
Poet of Manxland, your immortal fame
Has long out-lived you, and will long outlive
The fame of lesser poets. God did give
To you a genius much to be desired,
And you did use it with great influence
For good, always to higher things aspired.
You covered with a glamour and romance
The golden gorse when seen in glorious bloom.
And we have made your birthday an event
In the year’s calendar, and marked it down.
Your poetry will live while there is room
For love on earth; nought will that prevent.
So we remember you, our poet, Tom Brown!
