The Magnificat (A paraphrase)

“MY SOUL” said Mary, “magnifies the Lord.

My spirit doth in Saviour God rejoice;

For notice hath He ta’en of the low estate

Of His handmaiden; and from hence forward

All shall me blessed call.  He hath made choice,

The Mighty One, of me, who on Him wait.

Mercy to them He shows that fear His word,

Confusion to the proud is in His voice,

And in their hearts He scattereth the great.

The mighty are put down, the meek preferred;

The hungry filled with good things, but away

Hath turned the rich. Israel His own doth aid,

Remembering His mercy as He said

To Abraham, our sires, his seed for aye !”
