Early Morning – I General

‘Tis early morning and the gloomy night
Has flown with all its damp and heavy dew,
And bats and owls, all the nocturnal crew
Have fled to hiding with the morning light.
As with a touch of some young fairy sprite
From grey the sky turn rosy, then pale blue;
Day opens on a landscape and a new
Mantle adorns it, after midnight’s flight!
Frightening and heavy may be all the doubts,
That in the night can bring us grief and pain,
Yet they can be dissolved in morning rain.
And when the sounds of waking, human shouts
And other signs of life come to our ears,
Away will fly our terrors and our tears!
