The Scene Lad

(The Sixteenth of the Black Hold Ballads)
(With apologies to Sir Walter Scott)

AH! Lovely Gus, thine hour with us
It is already due;
And on the stand placed by your hand
A snowman waits for you.
Our dauntless Will performed with skill
This snowman, helped by us;
And from the tower has struck the hour;
But where is lovely Gus?

The one who made it grows dismayed,
His masterpiece to view;
Through table top falls drop by drop
Its water trickling through.
Above the door the gases roar
With their accustomed fuss;
Thus we prepare our student lair—
But where is lovely Gus?
