Collegia – Ode 56: Ruth
RUTH is of girls
All laughter and light,
Of beauty and grace
That shines in her face,
So oval and slight
And framed with dark curls.
Ruth to the boys
Is a queen on a throne,
Remote as a star,
As cold and afar,
Icy, chaste, and alone
With ineffable poise.
Ruth will awake
To tempestuous love
When her heart is assailed,
Her ramparts are scaled.
She mountains will move
For that lucky man’s sake!
